La Ciau del Tornavento (Treiso).
Born in 1958 in Avigliana, close to Turin, Maurilio Garola spent ten years working in various kitchens before opening his own restaurant on the Italian-French border.
In 1989, along with his business partner Nadia Benech, he opened La Ciau, a restaurant specializing in the cuisine of the Piedmont region. Inspired by the high quality of wines and truffles, in 1997 they moved to Treiso, in the heart of the Langhe area: the restaurant was called La Ciau del Tornavento, and in 2009 it boasted three Michelin forks and a star. Maurilio’s pride and joy is the wine: his cellar, located within the tuff of the hill itself, contains more than 60,000 bottles with about 1,800 labels coming from all over the world. The quality of the wines earned the restaurant two glasses from the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence.
Since 2011, Maurilio Garola has been a Lavazza Brand Ambassador.
La Ciau del Tornavento
The kitchen of Michelin-starred chef Maurilio Garola, with the collaboration of Marco Lombardo, offers guests a variety of classic Piedmontese dishes, some offerings “borrowed” from the far side of the Alps, and a healthy dose of seafood; all well blended and balanced, with the common factors of top-quality products and—above all—a special focus on the home-made.
