The Backhand

The backhand has changed over the years: from the classic one-hander, it has gradually developed into a two-handed grip.

“Primarily, it is a way of compensating,” explains Carlos Moyà, “we have less power on the backhand, as it requires strength from the back of the body. A second hand is a great help in terms of explosiveness and balance, and it gives us better control over the bounce of the ball.”

“It's always a matter of power and control,” adds Toni Nadal, “it is the only way to achieve an even stroke that leads the ball inside the racket.”

“The last aspect to consider is the position of the body,” continues Toni, “the weight of the legs must be shifted forward, to achieve a smooth movement.”

Therefore, the perfect backhand stems from the ability to control your body and distribute its strength and momentum harmoniously.
