In 2000, at 41, he went to Australia as a chef and found his spiritual home in this country. After his time in Sydney, Jock worked as a consultant before moving to Adelaide as the Executive Chef at Penfolds Magill Estate restaurant. This is where the chef has remained to this very day, as the owner of restaurants Orana and Blackwood: his cuisine is an ode to the food history of Australia and is inspired by the customs of Aboriginal peoples.
In 2017 Orana was named restaurant of the year by Gourmet Traveller, which had the following to say: “Jock Zonfrillo’s Orana is shaping a new Australian cuisine, bringing together native ingredients and introduced foods with confidence and originality.“
Jock is also a television presenter on the programs “Nomad Chef” and “Chef Exchange”, although his greatest passion is for the Orana Foundation, a non-profit organization inspired by Australia’s original inhabitants, their close relationship with the land and their sophisticated awareness of traditional gastronomic culture.
He has been a Lavazza Brand Ambassador since 2018, the year in which he also won the Basque Culinary World Prize; an award for chefs who have been able to use food as a force for change in society.
