R for Robusta

Published on 03 July 17

Coffea Robusta is an evergreen shrub belonging to the family of Rubiaceae, genus Coffea, grown for the production of espresso, mainly in central and western Africa and Asia.

It grows at altitudes of between sea level and 600 metres, where it proves resistant to hot-humid climatic conditions with spikes exceeding 30°C; it provides about one-third of the world's production of coffee, with its distinctive body enriched by chocolate notes and a persistent aftertaste.

The plant produces a greater yield than the Arabica variety, is more resistant to diseases and provides approximately double the amount of caffeine.
