A for Arabica

Published on 03 July 17

Coffea Arabica now makes up two-thirds of the world's coffee production.

The plant is rather delicate and requires more intensive care than the Robusta quality.

Arabica beans have an elongated ovoid shape, are green-blue in colour and are marked with a shallow, sinuous furrow.

Their ideal habitat is between an altitude of 600 and 2,000 metres: the higher the altitude, the better the sensory qualities of the beans.

The largest coffee cultivators are the Southern and Central American countries, but excellent quality is also found in some areas of Africa and Asia.

Arabica coffee is very aromatic, fragrant, sweet and slightly acidic.

The level of caffeine is lower than that contained in the Robusta variety; in the green coffee it’s about 1.4%.
