Born in Sicily, in 1943. His friendship with Leonardo Sciascia lead to a series of important reciprocal collaborations in the field of publishing. In 1967, Scianna moved to Milan, where he began working for the weekly magazine L’Europeo as a photojournalist and special envoy. He then moved to Paris where he became a correspondent for 10 years writing about politics, photography and literature for numerous important magazines of the Parisian cultural scene. In 1982, thanks to Maestro Henri Cartier-Bresson, he entered the prestigious Magnum agency. He has many active works. Today, he alternates between doing reportage, high fashion work, advertising, and collaborations with writers and photographers. He is recognized on an international level, and continues to work as a journalist.
